January 2006 Meeting Minutes
The EVAUG meeting this month was held in the OLD location,
at HEWV Orchestral firm, a half block from the usual MMM Design Group location.
EVAUG
President
Mike Taylor opened the meeting by asking attendees for their problems. Several
were discussed, with varying degrees of success. One problem was the “Copy/Paste” procedure
to bring objects from one open drawing to another. Plot style tables and “Space-Ball” controllers
were also mentioned. We talked about reducing the number of plotter sheet sizes
to just those you’d likely want. One attendee connected his notebook
computer to the projector and showed a problem he has with ADT 3.3. For some
reason the underground footers built into his wall styles refuse to sink more
than 20 inches into the ground, as if they were clipped off. That one was never
resolved, and caused some of us to loose sleep that night.
The new user group for Revit software is getting underway. The plans are now
to hold meetings every OTHER month. The pilot meeting was well attended by
representatives from both Autodesk dealers.
Attendees took a fifteen-minute break for drinks and snacks, provided in alternating
months by the two local Autodesk dealers: InletTechnology.com and AvatechSolutions.com.
After the break, EVAUG Vice President and Membership Manager, Nick Fuller,
announced that Avatech had offered him a transfer to Roanoke Virginia, where
he and his wife have wanted to return. Nick was a tremendous asset to the EVAUG
and will be hard to replace. We hope he stays in touch.
Beau Turner, former President of EVAUG, provided a demonstration of AutoCAD’s
Express Tools, starting with a brief history. Beau showed us OVERKILL, which
removes duplicate and overlapping objects, TEXT which changes the upper and
lower case of text in several ways, Txt2Mtext which converts single line text
into multi line text, Freeze Objects Layer, which freezes the entire layer
of the object selected, Layer Walk, which temporarily freezes all objects NOT
on the selected layer, and several more.
For door prizes this month, Mike Taylor tossed out can cozies (which actually
fly pretty well we found out), an aluminum faced notebook, an Autodesk book
bag, and an Autodesk Jock bag.
